Green Sanctuary Committee Minutes October 7, 2007 Present: Carel Hedlund (co-chair),Uta Hussong (co-chair), Lois Hybl, Mike Robinson (guest - Hospitality), Reider White August minutes approved. Uta agreed to take minutes for this meeting. Gary Mummert (UUSJ "green products") follow-up: Gary was thrilled with response. TUUC members purchased just over $500 in supplies. He liked hearing "plug" from Clare. GSC bought left-over items for use by Hospitality (plates, cups, napkins). Committee wants to know when Hospitality uses "green" products (Mike to notify us) in order to have signage ready to alert/educate congregation. If we started to order supplies regularly, Joyce would order for RE. Joyce's husband regularly travels to Pennsylvania and may be able to include supply pickup in regular schedule. Green Coffee discussion: Mike Robinson said Hospitality is funded by budget line of $400. He estimated that coffee expenses are around $220. Current coffee supply will last several months. Committee discussed idea of starting with "green" coffee once/month. Mike would like us to compose "rationale" letter [Uta will start this] to take to O-Team meeting in November (first Tues). We need to check with Mona regarding "green paper" trial in copier. Environmental Justice projects discussion: Uta compiled list of EJ projects that other "green" UU churches have undertaken. The Committee would like more info on Sierra Club-sponsored Baltimore City Outings (geared toward urban youth and adults), Sierra-Club One-Minute Advocacy and Action Teams. Reider will put us in contact with Russ Ulrich of Baltimore Metropolitan Council regarding EJ and transit in Baltimore. He can also put us in contact with Dorth at MDE who does EJ work(?). Uta will get in touch with Cromwell Valley Farm regarding left-over produce and the possibility of it going to places like Earl's Place (contact David Schwartz) and Paul's Place. Next meeting on November 4, 2007 at 12:30 PM. Minutes submitted by Uta Hussong
